I know, I know this was like two weeks ago but I had to write something to fill my calendar up a bit, so I’m back-dating this to the actual day of our return from Beijing. We arrived home quite late that night, close to midnight. Then Eddie had to go find a 24 hours clinic because he was really very sick! He couldn’t find one nearby and ended up going to a medical centre. Really pity him. This was his FIRST full-on guided tour, which we found out that it didn’t really suit him. He’s more of the free and easy type. He said he could’ve handled it if not for Ethan. I agreed.
Beijing was not as bad as I was told. Although we had rice for lunch and dinner (even on the breakfast buffet) everyday the meals were actually pretty good, except for the soup which had a little bit more taste than water (Beijing style wor). I even had a little chance to try McD’s spicy grilled chicken burger…for supper so it was cold, but good anyway. We also had a very good tour guide. We requested for a Cantonese-speaking one, so everyone could understand. If not for MIL I wouldn’t be able to buy some cheap goods since I’m not good in bargaining and can’t really speak Mandarin. I’m really happy with my purchases. If I hadn’t mentioned before, this was a family trip of 20 people. So time-wise we were a little bit more flexible. Plus SIL organised this tour so that we didn’t have to move hotel, more convenient for us. All and all, the trip was good, Beijing was good, except for the dusty air (developments towards Olympic 2008) and some of the oldies tourists (from other parts of China most probably) who were pretty rude.
