Sydney to KL - Part 1

October 14th, 2007 · 5 Comments

I know we arrived more than two weeks ago but now only I have some time to write a bit about our flight to KL.

Now where should I start? If I start from the time Ethan wakes up it’ll probably have to be three parts. So I’ll just start from the time we enter the immigration at Sydney Airport and make it two parts. But first, LOTS of THANKS to my good friends for sending us to the airport. Actually both of my friends were supposed to be working on my departure day. Then Bird switched from working lunch to working dinner, and Yen reported that she had to send a friend (me!) to the airport because our friend (Bird!) had to work last minute (hehe). Thanks a lot good friends! I really needed the help, although I said I didn’t.

Okay, so when I separated from my friends I had Ethan on the hip carrier (sorry forgot to take picture, original box at home) and we went through immigration and it was fine. Then on to security check and I had to take it off for it to be scanned. That was fine because I’ve already expected that. If you haven’t know, the latest enforcement on security for international flights is that we are not allowed to carry with us anything in liquid/gel form that is more than 100ml. And we have to display those items in a clear tiny zip lock bag. I had with me Ethan’s Panadol and Dimetapp (cold medicine, doctor advised us to give him this so he can zzz… on the plane, but I didn’t) which are both in the clear bag, Ethan’s water in his cup (definitely more than 100ml), and two jars of baby food (also more than 100ml each). So they took out the medicines, his baby food and my EMPTY water bottle to be scanned separately, leaving Ethan’s cup in the bag. They know it was in there because I told them.

Anyway, after that it took me so long to put everything back into my bag while Ethan was moving around. One of the security guys got us a trolley. It was very nice of him but the child seat of the trolley he got us was broken. So I had to get another one. I seldom see airport trolleys with a child seat which I think is super convenient for single parent travelling with a child, although my child refused to sit in it! Imagine me holding Ethan on one hand and carrying bags on the other walking all the way from the gate to taking the aerotrain and then pass the immigration and on to collect the luggage and then pushing the trolley with one hand (remember you have to push the bar down in order for the trolley to move and it’s not easy to do that with a single hand) when we came back last year.

We didn’t even have the time to look around the shops at Sydney Airport and I’ve already heard the boarding announcement for our flight. So I quickly walked to the gate and got lost for a bit at the intersection, I was blur because I was on the phone with Eddie at the same time. The gate was right at the end, I got Ethan out of the trolley and we queued and walked in. We went to our window seat, first row of the economy class with a bassinnet. There was a man next to us but he moved to the middle seat so we could have more space. We definitely needed that.

The flight departed 30 minutes later than scheduled. And we’re off!

To be continued…

Oh! I certainly understand how you feel. That’s hard. You are super! My Elizabeth always want me to carry her with an umbrella, just as you, one at each hand, to walk in the rain. That’s her favourite. And, I can only walk for about 10 minutes. Then, I feel like my hand become numb. :(

    Nice to meet you! :)

With umbrella some more and walk in the rain?!! Then you’re more super! hahahah… Later when Elizabeth is bigger then you’ll only be able to walk half the time…kekeke… Long gone are those days where we can just hold them forever in our arms.
