DVD overload

August 3rd, 2007 · 4 Comments

Slightly busy last week and this week because got lots of dvds from the library. A few movies and a few series. I can finish a few movies in a week but there are a few episodes in each disc for the series and I’ve got nine discs from 4 different series. How am I supposed to know that they all come at the same time? I just placed the request and waited along the queue for my turn.

The movies I got last week were: Night at the Museum, The Holiday, The Departed, and Borat. I’d recommend Night at the Museum (comedy with some action bits) and The Holiday (romance with some comedy bits). I’ve always liked Ben Stiller’s movies, this one no exception. He’s got a lot of movies with Owen Wilson. If you haven’t notice, Ben, Owen, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell worked together for many movies, in different combinations. They always have one and another in their movies, well not always since I don’t watch all their movies, but many times. So anyway, The Holiday is also nice to watch if you like romance with a little twist, and handsome Jude Law.

If you don’t know, The Departed is the Scorsese’s version of Hong Kong’s Infernal Affairs. I have this strong urge to give away the ending but wouldn’t want to spoil it for those who have not watched it yet. There are all these reviews on how great this movie is but all I gotta say is I’d still prefer the original version. As for Borat, I’d only recommend it for those of you who like crazy comedies. I liked Ali G Indahouse so I liked this too. Oh, warning for Borat, there is a naked fighting scene.

The series I got last week were: Desperate Housewives - season 2, disc 1 with 4 epis; Charmed - season 7, disc 3 & 4 with 8 epis; Prison Break - season 1, disc 4, 5 & 6 with 6 epis and special features; and Sex and the City - the whole of season 4, 3 discs with 18 epis.

Desperate Housewives: I missed quite a number of epis when Ethan was born, and basically missed the whole of season 3 on the tv.

Charmed: I started watching this back in KL but did not start from the first season. So I watched from the beginning in dvd, don’t remember when I started but I’m going to finish season 7 this week. I’ve requested for season 8, which is the latest, from the library already.

Prison Break: I’ve requested the first part to this series together but the second part came first. The first part came later in the week but we got it the next week (which was the Monday which had just passed). I had to finish the whole season in three days because the second part was due on Tuesday and I couldn’t renew it because it had been requested (but we can return on Wednesday, Thursday latest). I’ve watched this on the tv before but as usual, missed some epis and also couldn’t really concentrate when watching. The good thing I like about dvds are they have subtitles. Makes me understand more, sometimes I just couldn’t catch what they’re saying. Anyway, after the three days of Prison Break I have come to admire Michael Scofield even more, played by Wentworth Miller. He’s got a lot of charisma and personality, plus he’s just so cute.

Sex and the City: Just started watching this about two months ago. I first requested for it when I got nothing else to watch. I think season 6 is the final season so I’ve got two more to go.
